Ebook Getting Away with Murder The True Story of the Emmett Till Case Audible Audio Edition Chris Crowe Victor Bevine Listening Library Books
Revised and updated with new information, this Jane Addams Award-winner is an in-depth examination of the Emmett Till murder case, a catalyst of the civil rights movement.Â
The kidnapping and violent murder of 14-year-old Emmett Till in 1955 was and is a uniquely American tragedy. Till, a black teenager from Chicago, was visiting family in a small town in Mississippi, when he allegedly whistled at a white woman. Three days later, his brutally beaten body was found floating in the Tallahatchie River.Â
In clear, vivid detail Chris Crowe investigates the before and aftermath of Till's murder, as well as the dramatic trial and speedy acquittal of his white murderers, situating both in the context of the nascent civil rights movement. Newly reissued with a new chapter of additional material - including recently uncovered details about Till's accuser's testimony - this audiobook grants eye-opening insight to the legacy of Emmett Till.

"I was born about three months after Emmett was. I remember hearing about his murder at 14. I, too, was 14 and was two hours north in Memphis. Every white person in the U.S. needs to read this story. This is not ancient history, it happened in America in our time."

Getting Away with Murder The True Story of the Emmett Till Case Audible Audio Edition Chris Crowe Victor Bevine Listening Library Books Reviews
- Read it in one sitting! Great book. Interestingly weaves a narrative account of facts and an investigative-feel as Crowe takes you through the maddening case. There's no way you read this book and remain unmoved by what Emmett Till and his mother, Mrs. Till Bradley, endured. Appropriate for my approaching grade-level Freshmen readers, though it's actually geared for Middle School the content just seemed too heavy for me to think the younger age group is appropriate.
- I have used this text for several years in my 9th LA class as part of a Civil Rights Unit. My students stay engaged from the beginning to the end, and the text challenges their reading comprehension and their empathy. A must read...Lest we forget!!!
- I was born about three months after Emmett was. I remember hearing about his murder at 14. I, too, was 14 and was two hours north in Memphis. Every white person in the U.S. needs to read this story. This is not ancient history, it happened in America in our time.
- I enjoyed this book. It was well written, but don’t take my word for it because considers my reviews biased
- My son read this in school, and told me about it. Everyone needs to read this story.
- This book was extremely well-written and knowledgeable about the tragic murder of Emmett Till. There was never a dull moment and it read just like a fictional book. Though, of course, the horrific killing of Till wasn’t fiction.
- A tragic and horrendous story, and all true. Happened here in the USA. Very sad commentary on that era in our country's history. It is a famous incident in the civil rights story...very much one to read. The book is in excellent condition, the price was great. I would recommend this seller to others for sure.
- School mandated book, was a good read
