Alexander the Great Master of the Ancient World A Wicked History Doug Wilhelm Books Reviews
- My boys loved this book. Very informative and presents history in an engaging way.
- This is a great little book that gives a good overview of Alexander the Great's life. There is enough information here that middle/high schoolers could use it as a spine and branch off from there to research specific parts of his life.
- it was an easy and enjoyable read for my 9 year old who reads voraciously but is picky. this was a good way of getting out of the harry potter style fantasy trap.
- Written in language that students can understand
- It was a very good book i learned so much and it was also very short and once again it was good
- great
- I absolutely love this series of books because it is a good way to introduce kids to some of histories greatest and more wicked lives. I am a teacher of middle school students, and I cannot tell you how many of my students have no idea about people throughout history. To prove my point, I had a student ask if Alexander the Great was a character in the cartoon "Little Bill". I had to politely correct her and tell her that she was thinking of Alice the Great, not Alexander. This really opened my eyes on this problem, and how little our youth know about the past. They don't even know who Mark Twain is, but that is for a different discussion. This book gives a lot of good information about Alexander from his youth up to the time of his ultimate demise. It explains some of the battles he won, and, of course, the toll most of this took on his mind. From the paranoia present when he killed one of his good friends and allies, to the vanity present when he continues his pursuit for world domination, Alexander was an intriguing individual and this book helps introduce students to this man who was as narcissistic as he was great. Any middle school or late elementary school student should read this series to become familar with these individuals. Maybe then, they will no longer think these people are characters in modern movies or cartoons, but someone who is quite legendary.
