"I was so looking forward to this book. I have had such great success with other Hal Leonard titles. It arrived on time and in good condition, but it was printed missing about 10 pages from the beginning, it goes from of 8 to 17 and,it looks like it was just printed that way"

The Hal Leonard Mandolin Method Book Only for Beginners Music and Tablature Rich DelGrosso Books Reviews

  • Really liking this book so far. Breaks everything down and uses real music. Teaches the notes, strumming, and tab for those who need it but what I like most it encourages you to actually LEARN music and not be dependent on tab. I'm trying to learn tab because unfortunately that's the only way some music is offered. Learning music is crucial in my opinion. But this book offers everything you need together through each step.
  • This book appears designed to get you up and running quickly with bluegrass style techniques and songs. I haven't really used it, preferring instead to take the full systematic approach to learning the mandolin as I did nearly 70 years ago with the violin. That approach is best served by Mel Bay's Complete Mandolin Method. The Leonard book, however, appears to me to be better than others I have seen along similar lines. I do recommend getting a teacher no matter what book you use. My teacher has them all and is prepared to use them all.
  • After reviewing the kindle sample and seeing the section on how to use the audio I decided to purchase the book. After downloading the book I was disappointed to find no audio. If there are online files, I found no instructions to find or download audio files.
Content looks promising, however, without the audio support I returned the book.
  • The photos of "correct" and "incorrect" right hand picking technique should be removed. Go find a video of Sam Bush or Chris Thile playing and watch how the pick and strum. According to Hal Leonard, Sam and Chris aren't playing "correctly." Seriously?!?
  • This is likely a great resource. However, I realize my copy has an incorrect page insert. As such, I'm missing.pages 9-16 and 49-56. Instead, I have duplicate pages of 17-24 and 41-48. I almost wrote a bad review bc I thought some concepts we're skipped, but since I already read music, I was able to figure it out. Once I got to the duplicate pages, I realized the issue. Again, this is likely a great resource if you get the complete book, but unfortunately I did not.

  • I have book one and this follow-up book looks as good as the first. I will say, as a former teacher, book one progress' a little too fast for a beginner. However, I found it to be very good and look forward to book 2
  • Very great resource to help learn the mandolin.
